Common questions
Questions we get most days
Sizes, tickets, delivery, operated hire versus contract lift, and what it costs. If your question is not here, ring the yard and ask.
What areas do you cover?
The yard is at Moneymore in Mid Ulster, which puts most of Northern Ireland inside an hour. Cookstown and Magherafelt are about ten minutes, Belfast and Derry~Londonderry around the hour, Newry a little over. We work into Ireland by arrangement.
Do you deliver, or do I collect?
Either. We run our own low loader, so delivery and collection are ours to schedule rather than a haulier's. Smaller machines can be collected from the yard on Circular Road if that suits you better.
Do your cranes come with an operator?
Yes. Every crane goes out with a qualified operator and insurance. You can hire the crane and operator under CPA terms, where your appointed person plans the lift, or ask for a contract lift, where we do the site visit, write the lift plan and carry the responsibility.
What is the difference between crane hire and a contract lift?
On a CPA crane hire you supply the appointed person and the lift plan, and we supply the crane, the operator and certified gear. On a contract lift we plan and supervise the whole lift and it sits under our insurance. Contract lift costs more and takes the planning off your hands.
What size of crane do I need?
It is usually set by the radius rather than the weight. A light load a long way from the crane needs more machine than a heavy load close in. Tell us what is being lifted, where it is coming from and where it is going, and we will match it to a chart.
What size of digger should I hire?
The 1 tonne micro is about 0.75 m wide and goes through a standard door opening, so it suits basements, extensions and retro-fit work. The 3 tonne is the all-rounder for footings and drainage. From 5 to 9 tonnes is site strip, roads and bulk dig. Pair anything above 5 tonnes with a 6 or 9 tonne dumper.
Do I need a licence or a ticket to use the plant?
For operated crane hire we provide the trained operator. For self-drive plant the person using the machine has to be competent and, on a commercial site, will normally need the relevant card or certificate. If you are not sure what applies to your site, ask us before you book.
Will you come out and look at the job?
Yes, and on anything out of the ordinary we would rather. We look at where the crane can set up, what the outriggers are going onto, the radius to the load and the route in. On a contract lift the visit, the lift plan and the method statement are part of the job and are priced into the contract. On a CPA crane hire, ask when you ring and we will tell you where you stand before we come out.
Can I hire a crane and powered access on the same job?
Yes, and it is usually cheaper than hiring them from two places. Crane, boom or scissor lift and a 360 degree rotating telehandler come off the same yard, on the same delivery, on one docket and one invoice. Tell us what the whole job needs and we will price it as a package.
What is a 360 degree rotating telehandler, and when do I want one?
It is a telescopic handler on a slewing turret, so it can pick, rotate and place without repositioning the machine. We have five new ones. On a tight site it does work that would otherwise need a small crane plus a forklift, and it doubles as a work platform with the right basket fitted. You can run it with your own trained operator if your site has one, or take one of ours with it.
Can I get a crane outside office hours?
The office is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Crane bookings and out of hours calls go to 07522 424 808.
How much does it cost?
Prices depend on the machine, the length of hire and how far the site is from Moneymore, so everything is priced on enquiry. Send your list through the site or ring the yard and you will get a straight price.

Still not sure?
